Meet Hon. Ms. Ilisapeci Dikili Time
Hard work pays off, if you’re patient enough to see it through. This was true for 21-year-old Ilisapeci Dikili Time who hails from the beautiful village of Yasawa in Tawake district, Cakaudrove province and share maternal links to Nasinu village, Navatu district in Cakaudrove province.
She not only completed the Basic Diplomacy Training Programme (BDTP) successfully but also scooped the Honourable Mention award.
Ms. Time is currently pursuing a double major in Psychology and Sociology at the University of the South Pacific (USP). Ms. Time resides in Vesivesi, Kinoya with her family. She devotes her time to family and church obligations. Therefore, Ms. Time had to sacrifice her time with families and her obligation to the church in order to successfully complete the BDTP.
Ms. Time is grateful for the support she receives from the people around her. She firstly thanked the Almighty God for His omniscient knowledge, wisdom, understanding and protection. Secondly, she thanked her family and friends for always supporting her in whatever she does. Ms. Time also thanked the United Nations Associations of Fiji (UNA Fiji) for offering the diplomacy programme.
During the training, Ms. Time encountered numerous challenges as she struggled to juggle studies, family time and trying to accommodate the BDTP schedules. But in the end it was all rewarding “Thanks to this BDTP, I was able to learn strategies on how to overcome it, such as trying to prioritize my needs from the most important to the least important ones and remaining optimistic about things in life even though they get harder. Another challenge was trying to step outside of my own perspective and trying to look at things in the bigger perspective.”
Through BDTP Ms. Time was able to discover some new skills and is glad to learn from people of different working fields.
One of the highlights of her training was during the summation, “I felt as though my lifelong desire of speaking for my country and bringing about change had come true. I am grateful to UNA Fiji for the chance.”
Ms Time is a new probationary member for UNA Fiji.
