Meet Hon. Ms. Sumantha Shyan Dutt.

Practice makes it perfect is what we can learn from Ms. Sumantha Shyan Dutt.

With great determination, Ms. Dutt was able to overcome her fear of public speaking through the Basic Diplomacy Training Program (BDTP).

After graduating from the BDTP, Ms. Dutt is confident in everything she does. The BDTP has shaped her to be a better person and she was very fortunate to have been given the opportunity.

In the beginning, when Ms. Dutt joined the BDTP as a trainee, she was scared to speak in class. “I was always scared to speak in class. I always felt that what if I said this in class and it turns out to be wrong, Therefore, I always kept quiet in class.”

She dedicated her achievement to her family who has always supported her.

The 23-year-old was born and bred in Suva. She attended Gospel Primary School and then went to Rishikul Sanatan College for her secondary education. Ms. Dutt furthered her studies in a Technical College of Fiji pursuing a Baking and Pastries course. She now runs a small catering business called the At Your Service Caterers.

Ms. Dutt is a great pastry chef and just watching cooking shows like Master Chef on YouTube inspired her to do baking and make pastries. She loves to bake and tries new recipes every time. Ms. Dutt wants to open her cafe in the future.

Ms. Dutt is thankful to the BDTP coordinators for encouraging her to overcome her fears. One important thing she learned is a one-minute breathing exercise. Whenever Ms. Dutt feels overwhelmed in a room full of people, she does one-minute breathing exercises to overcome her fear.

Ms. Dutt is a Newly Recruited Probationary Member of UNA Fiji. She is happy and looks forward to learning more important lessons that'll help her in life.
