H.E. Mr. Amena Yauvoli Statement on UNA Fiji's 9th Anniversary

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am deeply honored and delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to the United Nations Association of Fiji (UNA Fiji) on the joyous occasion of its 9th Anniversary.

Over the past nine years, UNA Fiji has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the ideals and principles of the United Nations. It has tirelessly worked towards fostering international cooperation, advancing human rights, and promoting peace and sustainable development in Fiji and beyond. The dedication and passion of the UNA Fiji team, along with its members, have significantly contributed to the organization's success and the betterment of society.

UNA Fiji's journey has been truly remarkable, with a particularly significant chapter being the initiation of the Diplomacy Training Programme in 2016. This program, which promotes the concept of "leadership through the art of diplomacy," aims to create active Fijian citizens who subsequently become active global citizens. Through this transformative initiative, 444 individuals have participated in an interactive learning experience that takes place within the Global Classroom.

In the Global Classroom, trainees engage not only in the study of global concerns but also in the development of essential life skills, including research, writing, public speaking, and problem-solving. They learn the importance of multilateralism and gain insights into how the international community addresses issues such as peace and security, human rights, the environment, food security, economic development, and globalization. Through the Diplomacy Training Programme, they examine the needs, goals, and foreign policies of nations, drawing from history, geography, culture, economics, and science.

This training program is divided into three categories: the Basic Diplomacy Training Programme (BDTP), the Intermediate Diplomacy Training Programme (IDTP), and the Advanced Level Diplomacy Training Programme (ADTP). Trainees at each level acquire a profound understanding of diplomatic skills and international standards. The ADTP takes this learning a step further by delving into Foreign Policy Instruments of States, offering a real-world perspective on convening multilateral summits.

Our Diplomacy Training Programme is enriched by the invaluable contributions of guest speakers, including former ambassadors and diplomats with extensive international experience. Real-life case studies and simulated exercises enable our trainees to draw upon decades of diplomacy and international relations knowledge.

Notably, our commitment to sustainability and global development is evident in the fact that trainees at all levels are educated about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute to the pressing challenges of our time.

The impact of the Diplomacy Training Programme is evident in the fact that since its inception, approximately 444 individuals have undergone this transformative experience. Three formal graduations have taken place since 2018, and these graduates have gone on to become young diplomats, actively participating in both local and international conferences, furthering the values and mission of UNA Fiji.

UNA Fiji's commitment to making a positive impact extends beyond training and learning. Through various Community Impact Projects and initiatives, UNA Fiji partners with local communities and organizations to promote Active Fijian Citizenship. These projects enable our members and trainees to apply their knowledge to real societal challenges and to contribute to grassroots development through volunteerism. Our community projects emphasize social responsibility and practical social skills, ensuring that participants are equipped for active citizenship.

As the patron of UNA Fiji, I am immensely proud of the achievements of this organization and look forward to witnessing the positive impact it will undoubtedly make in the future.
