Hon. Mr. Mavneel Lal and Hon. Mr. Salih Khan participates in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s Tournament
he United Nations Association of Fiji (UNA Fiji) would like to congratulate two of its members, Hon. Mr. Mavneel Lal and Hon. Mr. Salih Khan for participating in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, which happened from 16 - 18 March 2023 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
In the tournament, Mr. Lal played for Central Brothers where his team was placed First position under Fellow Fijian category and Fiji Bitter Marist 7s while; Mr. Khan played for Rosy Heart Selects and his team was placed Third position.
Mr. Lal is a member of the Communications Team while Mr. Khan is the Executive Committee Member, Executive Officer for the Office of the President, and the Whip here at UNA Fiji.
Mr. Lal has been playing rugby since primary school. However, he developed his skills in 2018 when he joined this team and continued playing ever since.
He has played many of the local tournaments and won Nawaka 7s twice and was the runner-up in Uluinakau 7s. This was the first year Mr. Lal played Marist 7s, and he would like to thank the organisers.
"The future plan is to keep playing the sport of rugby and would like to encourage more youth to join in as it is our national sport," Mr. Lal said.
Meanwhile, for Mr. Khan, this was his first outing at the Marist 7s as he was unable to compete in the previous 2 years due to other commitments.
"I am proud of our teams achievements. Rugby is a brutal and physically taxing sport, so any positive result should be smiled upon. Our boys gave their best on the field, and that's what matters the most," Mr. Khan said.
Mr. Khan has been a rugby fan since he was 5 years old but only began playing the sport when he turned 20. His future plans are to compete in more tournaments and better himself in all aspects of the game.
The UNA Fiji would once again would like to wish all the best to Mr. Lal and Mr. Khan, in their future endeavours.
